The Keurbooms River & Beach area is North of Plettenberg Bay and consists of a number of lovely housing and sectional title developments along the banks of the Keurbooms River, and then stretching along the coastline to Keurboomstrand (Keurbooms Beach), which is an exclusive natural forested area sought after by nature lovers. Wildlife is abundant in this area. The Keurbooms area is both wild and beautiful, with magnificent Milkwoods and other indigenous trees. The beaches at Keurbooms are pristine, usually deserted and interspersed with towering rock formations, including Arch Rock. This area has some magnificent homes but there are also many smaller log type timber homes. Lower Central is the area below Main Street, which slopes down to Central Beach. It is a mature area of town with mostly older homes, many of which have been stunningly rebuilt or redecorated. The sea and breaker views are absolutely incredible and the commercial fishing activities, pleasure craft and main bathing beach are within view of many homes. The areas closest to the beach provide some of Plett's most exclusive and expensive properties. There are also a few prime Sectional Title apartments. Homes are set amongst mature trees and indigenous bush. The Five Star Plettenberg Hotel is in this suburb, as is the main whale watching viewpoint, the old Norwegian Timber Trading Store and the gracious historical sandstone Anglican Church.
Robberg Road is the main road to the Plett Airport and the Robberg Nature Reserve and is on a Ridge. The area between this road and Longships Drive below forms one of Plett's mature suburbs and is highly sought after due to its elevated views, with many properties enjoying lovely views of the Bay. It is popular amongst holiday owners but is better known as a desirable location for retirees and permanent residents. The lower areas closer to Longships Drive are less expensive than the elevated properties with their spectacular sea views.
Natures Valley is some 20 minutes drive on the Port Elizabeth side of Plett and is the only suburb along the Garden Route which is within the Tsitsikamma National Park. Set at the foot of the Bloukrans Gorge with its river meandering into a picturesque lagoon, Natures Valley is a place that is jealously guarded by its owners who live within its pristine forested area. There are approximately 400 homes, mostly of the wooden log cabin variety, and residents have a homeowners association and a shop and restaurant in the village. Robinson Crusoe Beaches complete the scene. The world famous Otter Trail ends at Natures Valley. Piesang Valley is the low lying area running parallel to the Piesang River which flows into the ocean at the Beacon Island Hotel on Central Beach. Some new areas are opening in Piesang Valley, which consisted traditionally of smallholdings. There are a number of new Sectional Title developments and The River Club is the most established new area in Piesang Valley.
Poortjies is the first suburban area upon entering Plett from the Port Elizabeth (North) side of town and consists of two sections, Upper Poortjies and Lower Poortjies. The Upper section is the most expensive due its stunning uninterrupted views of the Keurbooms River and Estuary, the Bay and the beautiful Tsitsikamma mountains which surround the Bay. The Lower section is at sea level and borders the edge of the Estuary. Approximately half the homes on the lower section have sea views. This is a stunning area, with one's boat in the water, a beautiful river and sandy beaches just a few steps away. Poortjies is very close to Lookout Beach and its famous Whale Viewpoint and is also a stone's throw from the centre of town and includes borders the new Market Square Shopping Centre with all its conveniences. A desirable location, especially if you wish to enjoy the most incredible sunrises over the Bay.
The River Club is a Victorian Caribbean themed gated village on the banks of the Piesang River, close to the main Central Beach of Plett. This lovely village consists of freestanding houses as well as a Sectional Title apartment development known as River Club Mews. A very popular holiday destination, most River Club properties are available for rental and investors realize good returns. The complex offers permanent security, and a communal sports centre with tennis courts and swimming pool. Streets are treed and a number of dams have been created resulting in the development being a birdwatchers' paradise.
Schoongezicht, as the name denotes is a German entrepreneur's development in the Piesang Valley of Plettenberg Bay. The Estate is adjacent to the Plettenberg Bay Country Club and the ground rises from the Valley to an area adjacent to the N2 above, providing outstanding elevated distant sea views of the Bay. This is one of Plett's traditional mature suburbs and is defined as the area between Longships Drive and Robberg Beach. The closer to the beach, the more expensive the properties generally are, with Beachy Head Drive recognized as Millionaire's Row. Property values can therefore vary from R1,2 million in Longships Drive to plus R20 million on Beachy Head. The area between Beachy Head and Longships is very popular amongst Plettenberg Bay residents, being protected from wind and close to the beach and town centre, whilst being affordable, and well populated by an equal mix of permanent and holiday owners. There are green belt sections and abundant birdlife in this area and residents are able to walk to Robberg Beach, which is doggy friendly. There are a large number of Sectional Title town house / condominium developments in this area due to the close proximity to Robberg Beach.
This is the Signal Hill area of Plett, one of the town's most prominent points with panoramic views of the Bay, The Beacon Island Hotel and the beaches below. The area is basically set on a ridge between the town centre and cliffs which fall away to the Piesang Valley far below. Homes are expensive because of the stunning views. It is one of the more mature areas of town with quality homes and a number of Guest Houses. Just North of Plett on the road to Port Elizabeth is The Crags. The Crags is well forested and consists mainly of farms and small holdings. Eco tourism is popular and this is the centre for Bungee Jumping, Underwater Marine Trails, Forest Canopy Walking and Black Water Rafting down the Storms River. The village has a small shopping centre, Church and the Wittedrift School which provides education from grade 1 to matric. Wittedrift High is the main public secondary education school in Plettenberg Bay. The medium of education is both English and Afrikaans. The town is on the route to the Prince Alfred's pass, and the Buffalo Hills Game Farm, Rhino Base Camp and the Trout Farm are close by. Wittedrift is also the home of TruMilk Dairy. There are lovely guest houses in the area and numerous hiking trails. The Bitou river canoe trail is popular with bird lovers. Most people living in Wittedrift work fulltime in Plettenberg Bay. Woodlands is a small private estate at the top of Robberg Road on the way to the Plett Airport, and is on the Western side of the road with gently sloping stands offering beautiful views of the valley below.
